Black Girls, Butterflies & the Magic of Dreams

The Kentucky Center for African American Heritage (KCAAH), in partnership with 300FOR300,  proudly presents the exhibition Black Girls, Butterflies & The Magic of Dreams: curated photographic portraits by 300FOR300 founder Chastity Dotson, art by middle school participants, and the Seed of L.O.V.E. multimedia sensory experience in a cocoon-like structure.

The exhibition will be held in KCAAH’s Elmer Lucille Allen and Bookstore Galleries. 

The exhibition will be open to the public  Monday – Friday, 10 am-4 pm. 

300FOR300 was conceptualized and created by writer and artist Chastity Dotson in response to the 2020 killing of Breonna Taylor. What started as a short-term run challenge during the pandemic has become a groundbreaking program which, through youth leadership, is creating national models of engagement and healing.  

The mission of 300FOR300 is to save lives by providing a safe third space where Colorful Girls are empowered to dream, heal, and share their stories. Through creative writing, art-making,  and on-site therapeutic support offered 300FOR300 cultivates a joyful community that strengthens self-expression, supports mental health, and helps girls realize their greatest potential.  

KCAAH enhances the public’s knowledge about the history, heritage, and cultural contributions of African Americans in Kentucky and in the African Diaspora. Through art installations,  interactive exhibits, and provocative works by prominent visual and performing artists, we pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of African Americans in Kentucky, as well as address contemporary issues facing communities throughout the African Diaspora.
