Hometown Tourist Celebration Offers (valid May 9-31, 2016)

It’s going to be a Beautiful Stay in the Neighborhood at this year’s Hometown Tourist Celebration.

The month-long extravaganza runs May 9-31 and celebrates the city’s eclectic, friendly, hip and historic neighborhoods, where nearly 100 of the area’s top attractions, hotels, restaurants and shops are offering deep discounts to anyone with a Kentucky or Indiana ID, local college ID or military ID.

So, come be a tourist in your hometown this May and have some fun eating, playing and staying in the ‘hoods that are right in your own backyard.

In an effort to champion the power of travel and educate the local community about all there is to experience in their own city, Louisville’s Hometown Tourist Celebration is held annually in conjunction with National Travel & Tourism Week.

Be sure and join us on Tuesday, May 10th when we kick off the festivities during the Hometown Tourist Celebration Press Conference and Attraction Showcase starting at 11 a.m. at 4th Street Live! Kentucky leaders, including Gov. Matt Bevin, Mayor Greg Fischer, Don Parkinson (Secretary of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts & Heritage Cabinet) and Karen Williams (President & CEO of the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau) will be the guest speakers. Following the press conference, more than 40 local attractions, restaurants, shops and hotels will be on hand offering entertainment, food, fun giveaways and more.

And, be sure and stop by the Louisville Visitors Center (4th & Jefferson) for sidewalk sales on Tuesdays, May 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be discounts on a variety of Louisville souvenirs.

Why Celebrate Hometown Tourist Month?

  • 40% of Americans don’t use their allotted vacation/paid time off days to relax and recharge.
  • Annually, there are 429 million days of unused vacation not being used by employees, so Hometown Tourist Month is the ideal opportunity to take some vacation time and explore your hometown.
  • Using just one more vacation day each year would generate $73 billion annually for the economy.
