Lifting Up Bourbon City’s 3rd Largest Industry May 3-9

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 5, 2020) —The annual National Travel and Tourism Week couldn’t come at a better time for this usually vibrant industry which has seen business dry up due to travel restrictions, event cancellations and social distancing related to COID-19.

May 3-9, it is even more important to honor the spirit of travel and recognize of the strength and resiliency of employees in the travel industry as the critical summer travel season gears up. This year, more than ever, this annual week reminds the country that even through the most difficult times, the spirit of travel is alive and well.

As the third largest industry in Louisville, supporting over 27,000 local jobs, tourism is truly is at the forefront as one of Louisville’s key economic drivers. Louisville relies heavily on the $3.5 Billion in visitor spending generated for our local economy.

Louisville Tourism’s mission as the official Destination Marketing Organization for Louisville Metro is to inspire travel to the city and plan for the future of Louisville as a destination.

The destination is commemorating the Spirit of Travel through a special National Travel and Tourism Week website with social media selfie opportunities using the trending hashtag #SpiritOfHospitality, a curated Kentucky playlist and a video showcasing some of the hospitality industry front-line workers our community relies on.

“As we celebrate tourism this week – and every week - we are working to implement economic recovery strategies and industry partnerships to come together, focusing on building on our previous momentum promoting Louisville as a premier destination – not only during this critical rebuilding period, but for years to come,” said Louisville Tourism President & CEO, Karen Williams.“
