Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest

Overview

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is a non-profit educational and recreational preserve consisting of over 14,600 acres of natural forest with a beautiful 600-plus acre arboretum. There are 32 miles of hiking trails and 16 miles of paved road for biking, three lakes, picnic areas, educational programming and family events throughout the year. Special features include Isaac’s Cafe and Gift Shop, The Children’s Play Garden and the Canopy Tree Walk, 75 feet above the ground. Bernheim was founded in 1929 as a gift to the people of Kentucky by Isaac W. Bernheim, a German immigrant who made his fortune in the distillery business. Bernheim is open daily 7:00 a.m. near sunset; closed January 1 and December 25. The Visitor Center and Education Center are open daily 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A $10 per vehicle donation is recommended for admission. Bernheim is always free for members.
