Visitors Center
A mini attraction in its own right, the Louisville Visitors Center offers a full-time staff to assist visitors with answering questions, giving directions, passing out brochures and maps and selling Louisville merchandise. It is a state-of-the-art, high-tech facility that gives visitors a memorable experience while allowing them to catch up on special events, make reservations for dining and lodging, get directions, find information on public transportation and learn about the city’s history, arts, restaurants, attractions, neighborhoods, shopping and nightlife. Patrons can also print maps of the city from a touch-screen wall, send e-post cards from two kiosks, purchase attraction tickets and select souvenir items. Information is also supplied to foot traffic outside of the facility via a high-tech, video wall visible from the street that will run video on different cultural events and attractions.
Through partnerships with two of Kentucky's leading industries, visitors will also learn the stories of two of Kentucky's most famous icons - Kentucky Bourbon, America's native spirit, and Colonel Harland Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The Kentucky Distillers' Association tells the story of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and as part of its exhibit, an enlarged map of Kentucky shows the location of seven distilleries, each with a description and overview of the history and charm of bourbon distilling. YUM! Brands Inc., headquartered in Louisville, brings to life the story of Colonel Harland Sanders through memorabilia and exhibits that tells the story of how Sanders turned his "secret recipe" into a global franchise. One of the Colonel's signature white suits is on display.
The Louisville Visitors Center is open Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Visitors Center offers extended hours through 6 p.m. April - October and for special events. The visitors center will be closed on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
