Historic Old Louisville Neighborhood and Visitors Center

Overview

Looking for a trip into a rare and beautiful historic architectural area? Louisville is the site of the nation’s largest collection of Victorian mansions in a rich array of styles nestled in Louisville’s oldest neighborhood with one of the great Olmsted Parks --Central Park. The Historic Old Louisville Neighborhood and Visitors Center located in Central Park offers self-guided walking tour booklets, guided tours, calendars on music performances, plays and festivals. Walking Tours are offered Tuesday through Saturday, at 11 am and 1:30 pm. Central Park offers the country’s oldest free Shakespeare theater, the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, which runs from early June to mid-August six nights a week. On the first full weekend in October, our community hosts the St. James Court Art Show which draws about 300,000 people to enjoy and buy art in a festival atmosphere. Blues is in our blood and each October we host the Garvin Gate Blues Festival in a lively street festival. The first full weekend in December brings the ever popular Holiday Home Tour, a winter showcase of extraordinary townhouses. Known for its culinary delights, Old Louisville knows how to pamper. We boast one of the finest chefs in America, Chef Edward Lee at 610 Magnolia. Buck’s on Ormsby sets an elegant standard with the splendid white flowers on the bar in an Old European style hotel. All around the neighborhood are cafes, pizza places, and bars.
