5 Mile Route

This family-friendly route takes you across the river and back

The base of the Big Four Bridge to the Falls of Ohio State Park:

Start your leisurely ride at the base of the popular Big Four Bridge in Waterfront Park, a starting point for rides for local cyclists. This former train bridge that spans the Ohio River, opened to the public as a pedestrian bridge in 2013, with more than 1.5 million visits per year. As you cycle across the 2-mile-long bridge to Jeffersonville, IN, you’ll hear music above you and boats floating by below you.

As you descend into Jeffersonville, you’ll cycle through the bustling Big Four Station. Head on your bike towards the Ohio River to connect with the Ohio River Greenway. Once on the Greenway, you’ll cycle West on roads and then multi-purpose paths to end your ride at the Falls of the Ohio State Park & Interpretive Center, where Lewis & Clark met to begin their Westward Expedition. Hop off your bike to explore the largest exposed Devonian fossil bed in the world which is over 386 million years old. After you're done exploring, hop back on your bike towards town to venture back to the Big Four Bridge to cycle back to Louisville, where you began your journey.

Bonus Miles: If you want to add 5 more miles to your route, continue past the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center on the Ohio River Greenway to enjoy the recently opened Greenway Bridge that connects Clarksville to New Albany, Indiana. Take a break before returning to refuel at one of New Albany’s unique restaurants or bakeries (10 miles roundtrip out and back to the Falls of the Ohio).
