Louisville Tourism Celebrates Bold Growth in 2025

Bourbon City celebrated a landmark year marked by record-breaking events & major hospitality developments

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (December 22, 2025) — Louisville celebrated a landmark year in 2025 marked by record-breaking events, major hospitality developments and continued growth in its signature bourbon experiences. These achievements underscore Bourbon City’s position as a premier destination for travelers worldwide.

Economic Impact
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that the state's tourism industry generated $14.3 billion in economic impact. Louisville was responsible for 30% or $4.4 billion and 72,000 jobs. 2025 marked the third consecutive year of tourism records.

New Bourbon Visitor Experiences 
Louisville’s bourbon scene surged toward its ambitious goal of 25 visitor experiences by year-end. 2025 openings include Circa 1856 (Chicken Cock Whiskey), Green River Distilling Co., Pursuit Spirits (second location on Main Street), Uncle Boojie’s Homestead and Whistle Pig The Vault. Additional brands have announced plans to open, including Binder’s Stash, Louisville Barrel Whiskey Co. and Von Payne Spirits.

Hotel Development
Hotel Bourre Bonne (Curio Collection by Hilton) opened with upscale amenities, including the signature Bourre Bonne Steakhouse, rooftop pool, and bar.

Convention Center Expansion
 The Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC) continues its $460+ million expansion and renovation. A new 350,000-square-foot multi-purpose building, scheduled for completion in late 2026, will make KEC the fifth-largest convention center in the United States. Additional projects preparing the campus for growth include a newly designed entrance gate, new Freedom Hall seating, and renovated restrooms. During their fiscal year, KEC was ranked the #1 busiest convention center in the U.S.

Airport Updates Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) advanced a $1 billion modernization project, improving common spaces and security lines in the terminal and airfield efficiencies. The airport recorded another busy summer; a 3% increase compared to 2024, the airport’s busiest year yet.

KFC Yum! Center
Launched a $100 M renovation plan to take place over the next five years. The Louisville Arena Authority invested an estimated $13.6 million for major infrastructure upgrades, with the centerpiece being the full replacement of the facility’s 250,000 square foot original roof.

Mobile Visitor Center Launch
Louisville Tourism introduced its Mobile Visitor Information Center (VIC), bringing Bourbon City’s brand, attractions, and culinary experiences on the road to inspire future travel. This innovative mobile unit enhances on-the-go engagement and promotes Louisville as a top destination beyond Kentucky.

Outdoor recreation PlayPort debuted as an outdoor experiential learning area honoring the Ohio River’s industrial heritage. Additionally, the Speed Art Museum opened its new Elizabeth P. and Frederick K. Cressman Art Park, a three-acre landscape surrounding the Museum that transformed its outdoor space, adding a sculpture garden and 150 trees.

Award-winning attractions
Louisville was the only city in the nation with four attractions ranked among USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Attraction for Sports Fans — Kentucky Derby Museum (#2), Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory (#4), Churchill Downs (#5), and Muhammad Ali Center (#10) — highlighting the city’s unique role in sports tourism and hospitality. Kentucky Kingdom unveiled Discovery Meadow with three new rides and announced a $14M coaster for 2026. The Frazier History Museum was voted the Best Museum in Kentucky by Kentucky Living magazine.

Culinary
Mash-Up Food Hall launched in NuLu, combining seven diverse food vendors with co-working spaces.

Extended by popular demand, Louisville’s second annual LouGrass Sessions kept the music flowing through November, celebrating Kentucky’s rich Bluegrass roots tradition. What began as a seasonal series from April to October struck a chord with fans, prompting additional shows through November.

Human Rights Campaign
 Louisville scored a perfect 100 on Municipal Equality Index (MEI) for the 11th consecutive year.
