Kentucky Opera Announces New Season

The Kentucky Opera has announced their 2017-2018 season schedule.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 12, 2017) The Kentucky Opera announced its upcoming season this week. The line-up includes works by Romantic composers Strauss and Rossini and American composer Jake Heggie. Season ticket packages are now on sale.

The season will open with “Ariadne auf Naxos.” With music by Richard Strauss, this opera is “an unexpected mash up of traditional tragic opera and romantic farce in this dazzling opera-within-an-opera.” Performance dates are Sept. 15 & 17, 2017.

One of the most performed contemporary American operas, “Dead Man Walking,” is the second offering of the season. Commissioned by the San Francisco Opera, this opera is based on the best-selling book by Sister Helen Prejean. Performance dates are Oct. 27 & 29, 2017.

The season ends with “The Barber of Seville.” One of the most recognized operas because of its reference in cartoons and contemporary culture, “The Barber of Seville” is a comedic jewel. Performance dates are Feb. 16 & 18, 2018.

All performances are held at the Brown Theatre, and accompanied by the Louisville Orchestra.

Season ticket packages are now on sale, and as low as $95. Visit kyopera.org for more information and/or to purchase tickets, or call 502.584.4500.
