Derby Season Success Sets the Stage for National Travel & Tourism Week in Louisville
Bourbon City Honors hospitality professionals powering tourism
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 4, 2026) – As communities nationwide mark National Travel & Tourism Week (NTTW), Louisville is commemorating the 152nd Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Derby Festival season—one that once again showcased the energy, hospitality and spirit that define the city. The annual observance is a fitting moment to spotlight Louisville’s hospitality workforce, whose commitment and professionalism help create memorable experiences for more than 250,000 visitors each year.
Tourism ranks as Louisville’s third-largest industry, supporting more than 70,000 hospitality-related jobs across Jefferson County and generating an estimated $442 billion in local economic impact. Visitor spending also delivers more than $300 million annually in state and local tax revenue, easing the tax burden by an average of $800 per Louisville household.
“Tourism is a vital driver of Louisville’s economy, and our hospitality professionals are at the heart of what makes this city such a welcoming place to visit,” said Cleo Battle, President & CEO of Louisville Tourism. “Their dedication plays an essential role in shaping the experience visitors take home—and the reputation Louisville continues to build on the national and global stage.”
Since its establishment in 1983, NTTW has showcased how travel fosters connection and builds the foundation for the quintessential American experience. This year’s theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” highlights that in every corner of the country, travel is a foundational pillar of growth, leaving an indelible mark on our local economies and culture. The industry's economic contributions are undeniable.
