Pretty Decent
Since opening its doors in Louisville in April 2023, Pretty Decent is one of North America's most highly-acclaimed new bars. Pretty Decent is one of just a dozen bars in the United States with 2 PINs from The Pinnacle Guide (the Michelin stars of cocktail bars), is named in this year's Top 500 Bars list, a Spirited Awards finalist for Best New Cocktail Bar and a member of the Imbibe 75 among other awards and mentions. Co-owner John Douglass is a frequent guest on the Agave Road Trip podcast and has appeared on 60 Minutes in a segment on mezcal. Guests enter Pretty Decent through a boutique houseplant shop curated and managed by co-owner and Kentucky Master Gardener Jeanne Douglass. The bar, located in the rear of the space, is managed by John, and is inspired by the spirits and flavors of Mexico. Pretty Decent holds a back bar Tequila Aficionado Magazine said could qualify as "a spirits history museum" and James Beard Award winning author Emma Janzen has named Pretty Decent one of the nation's ten best mezcal bars. John, who also owns Villa Alta Oaxacan Rum, travels to rural Mexico several times a year meeting mezcal producers and selecting private batches for the bar, which are also available in the plant shop to take home. The space at Pretty Decent is the opposite of a speakeasy: it is open and bright, with a bar setup designed to give the guest the feeling of sitting around the kitchen counter in our home rather than a tavern. It is a bright and welcoming stop on your stay in Louisville. The plant shop at Pretty Decent offers frequent workshops that are great for small groups, and the bar offers monthly Mezcal 101 classes that are 90 minute talks and tastings that dive deep into the history, culture and production of the world's most captivating spirit.
