Celebrate the holiday season in Louisville!

Louisville is prepared for the holiday season with tried-and-true classics as well as spectacular new events. We have made it easier for you to find all the holiday events happening in the city. Here are the top holiday events happening in the city:

Light Up Louisville

Every year on the day after Thanksgiving, thousands of Louisville locals and visitors kick off the holiday season with Light-Up Louisville. This 35-year tradition features an evening parade that culminates with the arrival of Santa Claus who helps to illuminate downtown Louisville in sparkling lights! 

Holiday Performances at The Kentucky Center for The Performing Arts

Catch a holiday themed performance that will dazzle the whole family. Events during November and December include Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, Home for the Holidays with Cirque Musica, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!, The Brown-Forman Nutcracker, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, and Jim Brickman’s Comfort & Joy. Holiday Performances at Derby Dinner Playhouse

There are two shows coming to the Derby Dinner Playhouse in November and December, Honky Tonk Angels Holiday Spectacular and Once Upon A Snowflake. Celebrate the holidays and experience one of the oldest and largest continually operating dinner theaters in the U.S.

Lights Under Louisville

Experience this truly unique Louisville event: the world’s only fully underground drive through Christmas light show. More than 2,000,000 points of light, and 850 lit characters adorn 17 miles of underground passageways that you can drive through with your family. This light show kicks off November 18th and runs until the New Year.

Christmas at the Galt House Hotel

Don’t miss Christmas at the Galt House Hotel from mid-November through December. The hotel will be completely decked out with larger than life sparkling lights, animated figurines, and more. There are plenty of activities and events to choose from, from daily Dancing Bellman performances, to breakfast with Santa, a Gingerbread contest, and more!  

Bardstown Road Aglow

A tradition for more than 30 years, the first Saturday in December marks the Bardstown Road Aglow celebration. Wear your best Christmas sweater and bring the whole family for a holiday tree lighting, photos with Santa, fun activities, and specials and discounts from area stores and restaurants.

Old Louisville Home Tour

Mix a little bit of history into your holiday celebrations. Explore the famous Victorian mansions of Old Louisville in this must-see home tour. The whole family will enjoy seeing these magnificent buildings decorated for the holidays.

Festival of Trees and Lights At Slugger Field

Get ready for the holidays by selecting a hand-decorated Christmas tree or wreath. All the proceeds go toward the Kosair Children’s Hospital. The festival is presented by Republic Bank and runs from November 11-13 with shopping, fireworks, a visit with Santa, and plenty of family-friendly activities.

A Christmas Carol at The Actor's Theatre

Make this time-honored story a part of your holiday tradition with a live production from the Actor’s Theatre. The Actor’s Theatre take on this classic story features spectacular sets and music. Beginning in late November, the production runs through the holiday season.

Louisville-Kentucky Game

This year the annual rivalry between Louisville and Kentucky will be held December 21st at the KFC Yum! Center. Get tickets to cheer on your favorite, the Wildcats or the Cardinals, in this heated and historic match up.  

Toyland Christmas

View thousands of sparkling lights coordinated to holiday music, take a picture with Santa, enjoy singing and carols, and support a great cause at Toyland’s Christmas celebration. The celebration begins after Thanksgiving and runs through December. All proceeds from this event go to Home of the Innocents.
