This application is for those who will be attending college/university courses, or entering their Senior Year of HS in the Fall of 2023. Students must be studying Education/Teaching, Safety, or a similarly related field. Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Training Supervisor, Interns are responsible for developing, training and observing Aquatics Lifeguards before and throughout the operating season. This includes completing any and all necessary training verification paperwork. Interns who work in this position may not be performing the responsibilities of this role every shift. Interns in the Trainer position must follow and enforce all park policies at all times. This includes immediately correcting trainees and/or other Hosts when necessary (uniform shirt untucked, unauthorized cell phone use, slouching at work positions, etc.). Special Project: Over the course of your internship, you will be required to develop an in-service training session for designated zone assignment. (Approx. 15-30 minutes on varying topics) This is a paid internship. Interns must be available to commit to 30 hours/week during peak summer months (June and July). If attending summer courses, a minimum of 20 hours will be acceptable. Non-local interns must make arrangements for their own housing. Students who meet the requirements of this internship will be presented with a Certificate of Completion following the program. Intern Responsibilities: -Maintain exemplary standards of all Aquatics Host job responsibilities. -Carry necessary equipment at all times when performing trainer duties (trainer binder, tablet, Timmy doll, fully stocked hip pack). -Ensure proper Host appearance and enforcement of grooming and uniform standards per Employee Handbook. -Observe and correct all Host behavior that does not meet park, company, or Ellis & Associates standards. -Ensure completion of all training documentation for assigned trainees, including Safety Training Plans. -Ensure all lifeguards meet in-service hours requirement. -Track and ensure accuracy of Host Break Sheets during training sessions. -Maintain departmental training equipment in proper working condition. -Keep Training Supervisors informed of all completed training. -Conduct lifeguard training, in-service training, Aquatics Safety Training, attraction-specific training, and Vigilance Awareness Trainings as assigned. -Plan and organize class teaching outlines, methods, and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the park, company, and Ellis & Associates Lifeguard and CPR programs. -Organize and direct activities of assigned participants to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students. -Ensure all class students are registered in Pectora and have completed necessary online training modules before start of Lifeguard class. -Additional duties as assigned. Essential Intern Skills: -Positive attitude with the ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner with Hosts and guests. -Ability to effectively teach others. -Ability to adapt teaching approach to match the experience and abilities of participants. -Effective decision-making ability. -Ability to maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance. -Strong understanding and focus on safety and guest service. -Ability to maintain a high standard of safety, guest service, and cleanliness, setting the standard for fellow lifeguards. -Attention to detail and punctual. Requirements: -Minimum age of 17 years old. -Maintain current certification in the following: 1) Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training ProgramTM – Special Facilities (or Instructor) 2) Louisville Metro Dept. of Public Health & Wellness, Lifeguard Permit 3) Aquatics Safety Training 4) Train the Trainer -Attraction-specific training in all assigned areas -Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. -Ability to participate in pre-season and in-service training sessions. -Knowledge of department and park-wide policies.
