Kentucky Refugee Ministries, Inc. (KRM)

KRM has been making Kentucky home for refugees since 1990. As a refugee resettlement agency, KRM works with newcomers who are rebuilding their lives. Refugees arrive from various countries—Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma, Burundi, Cuba, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, and Syria, among others.

Services include English language training, housing, case management, health and wellness, youth and education, and employment support. In recent years, refugees secured employment in sectors including hospitality, food service, manufacturing, logistics, education, healthcare, and more.

As a partner to employers, KRM can assist with qualified applicant referrals, transporting applicants to interviews, interpretation, onboarding, retention, and cultural competency training. Job-seekers in KRM’s employment program participate in job readiness workshops, career assessments, and resume building. Through grant funding and community support, KRM can provide required work items, such as uniforms or footwear. All employment services empower individuals to rebuild, support their families, and contribute.

Catholic Charities of Louisville

Catholic Charities of Louisville serves people in need, especially the poor and oppressed. Consistent with the principles of Catholic social teaching, we build bridges of hope, mercy, and justice as we accompany struggling families and individuals to greater self-sufficiency, one relationship at a time.

We work with moms, refugees, those just out of prison, residents in long-term care facilities, residents in West Louisville, farmers, and more.

Specific to employment, several of our programs offer job skills and training. We have a culinary arts program that can prepare students with necessary job skills no matter the career they pursue; a farming program to prepare refugees who want to farm in Kentucky; an interpretation and translation training program for those who speak multiple languages; and general employment assistance through our Migration & Refugee Services program.

Assistance through any of these services can include interview practice, resume help, clothing assistance, and/or direct connection to potential employers.
