Mark Lee Webb's "UNEXPECTED" Photo Exhibition

Mark Lee Webb uses his camera to capture variations in colors, textures, lines, and weathering unique to commercial trash dumpsters, creating spectacular photographic abstracts. Art from dumpsters—who would think you can extract art from the side of a commercial dumpster! But the art is there – you must look closely. It may be just a few inches wide. Take your time and use your imagination. Find patterns that suggest movement in the shapes. Mark Lee Webb is inventing new ways to view the world through the lens of a camera. Distorted vestiges of weekend celebrations turned into still-life images. Contorted children’s toys. Bent images of industry. Abstractions extracted from degraded commercial dumpsters. These are just a few of the projects Mark is currently exploring.

“I do not use titles that might suggest what I see in the shapes and figures because I do not want to lead the viewer into my visions. I want the viewer to make their own discoveries.”

Mark Lee Webb received his MFA from Queens University of Charlotte. His photographs have been included in many juried exhibitions including WideOpen (Athens, OH), and used on the covers of several university journals such as The Penn Review.

This exhibition is part of the 2023 Louisville Photo Biennial, and is sponsored by Kinetic Imaging.
