Intersections Art Exhibition

Intersections Art Exhibition

recurring event

The Lou Tate Gallery at the Little Loomhouse, located at 328 Kenwood Hill Road, will host Intersections, Sept 3 – Oct 15, 2022. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10am-3pm and Saturday, 11am-4pm. The Opening Reception is free, open to the public, and will take place on Saturday, Sept 3 from 2pm-4pm at The Lou Tate Gallery.

The Lou Tate Gallery is pleased to present a multi-media exhibit from the community of artists who contribute to the Loomhouse’s daily operations. From the executive staff to paid assistants, contract teachers, docents and volunteers, Intersections will showcase the individual art of those who help the Loomhouse thrive, and celebrate the diverse influences each brings to their work. Eleven artists have contributed to the show and include works of fine art to traditional craft. Themes range from personal expression, addressing global concerns, to technical excellence. On her knit and embroidery piece titled For Fred, Frances Millar, Archives Assistant, says, “This blanket is an ode to my grandpa, who passed from COVID in November 2020. The embroidered text references a 1987 song by Randy Travis, which I highly associate with Gramps.” Executive Director, Michelle Amos, says about her woven work, “I adapted weaving drafts from members of the Hobby Weavers of the Ohio Valley from 1958, and Bertha Grey Hayes drafts from 1938-46, to express concerns around progress and climate change.” And Gallery Manager, Norma Drish, says her painting titled, Pool Shark, was inspired from a photograph shared by a young man from Indiana. “The challenge for me in this painting was recreating the exciting, exotic mood and the perspective of the pool player and the billiards in the room. Challenge accepted!” The three landmarked cabins where the Little Loomhouse is located have been run by a series of creative women from 1898 till the death of the founder, Lou Tate in 1979. This tradition has continued to current times with an artistic staff whose contributions continue the legacy of these women. Exhibition includes the work of Hadeel Alelayawi, Michelle Amos, Norma Drish, Gwendolyn Kelly, Sylvia Kinsfather, David Lotspeich, Frances Millar, Sally Moss, Naela, Amy Sloboda, and Jordan Witherspoon.
