Evenings of Note: Harry Pickens Jazz Trio

Join us on Saturday, March 23, 2024 when Harry Pickens and his Jazz Trio will take the Oxmoor library back to the Jazz age.

An award-winning performing artist, educator, composer, author, workshop facilitator and life transformation coach, Pickens is a modern-day Renaissance man. His career as a jazz pianist has taken him to 17 countries throughout Asia, Europe and the Americas, featuring collaborative performances with many of the world’s brightest jazz stars, including Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Henderson, James Moody and more. As a composer, Pickens has produced works for the likes of Wendell Berry and StageOne Family Theatre, and his composition “The Awakening Heart” was featured in a personal performance for the Dalai Lama. In 2009, Pickens received the Kentucky Governor’s Award for the Arts in Education, the state’s highest honor in the creative and performing arts. He is also featured in the documentary Harry Pickens: In the Garden of Music, produced by Kentucky Educational Television, which received a Regional Emmy Award for Arts and Entertainment Programming. Pickens recently served a three-year term as special assistant to the provost for new initiatives at the University of Louisville and currently serves as ambassador for artistry in education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Doors open at 7:30pm and the evening will start with a pre-concert reception of drinks and nibbles. The music will begin at 8:00pm
