Black Heritage: Pioneers in Racing & Art

Join Kentucky Derby Museum on August 18 for Black Heritage: Pioneers in Racing and Art. This evening will include insightful conversations with three new-age pioneers who promote growth and a better understanding of the significant impacts African Americans have had on Thoroughbred Racing and Art.

Guests will start out the evening enjoying complimentary cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres, while exploring the Museum’s Black Heritage in Racing exhibit.

Kicking off the conversation, local artist Lance Newman will delve into the fascinating story of the woman behind his award-winning portrait, The Will of Aunt Eliza. This piece is the Grand Prize winner of the Kentucky Derby Museum’s Black Heritage in Racing Art contest.

Newman will then lead a discussion with horsemen and entrepreneurs Greg Harbut and Ray Daniels, connecting the audience to the past, present and future of African Americans in both Thoroughbred Racing and the Arts. Guests will have the opportunity to engage in the conversation during a Q & A.

To cap off the night, guests will get to experience the 360° degree movie, The Greatest Race.
