  • September 25, the Bureau hosted its second annual "Taste of Louisville" reception in Washington, D.C., at the Willard InterContinental Hotel.  The reception was in recognition of the Congressional Black Caucus and is part of the Bureau’s annual D.C. multicultural sales blitz.  The "Taste" promotes Louisville as a meeting destination, as well as a city of "possibilities" for economic development.  Over 200 people attended, including D.C. meeting planners, members of the Congressional Black Caucus, directors of national and local associations and corporations.  Co-sponsors of the reception included Brown-Forman, Humana Inc., Greater Louisville, Inc., Councilman David Tandy, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Muhammad Ali Center, Churchill Downs and the Urban Insight Agency.

  • Pictured at the reception are (l to r): Greg Roberts, president & CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center; Peggy Riley, Bureau director of multicultural sales; Rita Edmonds, Bureau convention services manager; and, David W. Tandy, Metro Louisville Fourth District Councilman.

  • October 1-3, Lisa LeCompte will conduct a site visit for the Glass Art Society which is considering Louisville for its 2010 Annual Conference.  The event represents 1,639 room nights and an economic impact of $769,380.

  • September 29, Dineene Bradley, Kate Amara, Gayla Schaftlein and Barbara Hewitt attended the Fourth Annual Sister Cities fundraising event, "A Tasteful Affair," at the Jefferson Club.  Ticket sales and proceeds from the annual event go to support international exchanges in the areas of education, economic development, arts and culture, tourism and community initiatives.

  • Bette Brown, of Travels with Bette, brought a motorcoach group from Springfield, Ohio, to Louisville on September 26.  The group was here for the Bluegrass Balloon Festival. Kate Amara, who designed the itinerary for the group’s Louisville visit, greeted the group with a Red Carpet Arrival.  Picture (l to r) are, Bette Brown, Kate Amara and Harry Brown.

  • National Organization for Victim Assistance is meeting at the Galt House Hotel & Suites. They are expecting 1,200 attendees with an economic impact of $1.7 million. The Bureau will provide an onsite city concierge.

  • 2009 Partner Directory - Reserve your advertising spot now for the January 2009 issue!  Meeting planners use this bi-annual directory as “Yellow Pages” for Greater Louisville’s hospitality industry when planning meetings, conventions, tradeshows and sightseeing trips.  Bureau members use this directory as a tool for product and service referrals.  The Directory is also distributed to all booked business at the Kentucky Exposition Center and the Kentucky International Convention Center.  Tap into this lucrative convention market and stand out among the crowd.  Contact Joanie Allgeier at (502) 560-1469 or jallgeier@gotolouisville.com.

  • The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, and the Louisville Film Arts Institute, will host the annual Bourbon Ball on Friday, October 3 at Louisville Underground at 1841 Taylor Avenue.  “The Bourbon Ball, Take 24” will celebrate Kentucky’s own bourbon, along with the art of filmmaking.  Guests will enjoy bourbon tasting and signature cocktails from nine distilleries, appetizers from Urban Bourbon Trail restaurants, music from The Don Krekel Orchestra and a three-course Kentucky inspired dinner created by Juleps at Sullivan University.  For tickets call Stephanie Mayfield at (502) 589-0102.

  • If you have an event in at least its third year, and draws 1,000 people or more, enter it with Southeast Tourism Society for the spring 2009 Top 20 Events. The event must take place in April, May or June of 2009. The nomination form and instructions sheet can be downloaded here. The STS Top 20 deadline is October 10.
