Countdown to Ryder Cup
- The Ryder Cup, one of professional golf's top international competitions, will be held at Louisville's Valhalla Golf Club Sept. 16-21, 2008. To celebrate the event, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is working to create an official "2008 Ryder Cup License Plate." To ensure production, a minimum of 900 interested individuals are needed to complete an application and submit payment to the Kentucky Sports Authority by September 30, 2007.
The Ryder Cup, which pairs 12 of the top American golfers against 12 of their European counterparts, is expected to draw the highest attendance ever for a sporting event held in Kentucky.
More than 210,000 spectators are expected during the six days of practice rounds and competition and reach an estimated economic impact of $115 million in Greater Louisville. More than 25 hours of live coverage is planned, reaching over 545 million viewers in 177 countries.
