Convention Development

  • March 3-4, Lisa LeCompte will conduct a site visit for the Society for Theriogenology which is considering Louisville for its 2013 or 2014 Annual Convention. The convention represents 975 room nights and an economic impact of $434,620.

  • March 3, Joyce Howlett and Karen Wallace met with locals Bill Phelps & David Thomas to discuss promoting the National Conference of State Legislatures that Louisville will host in 2010. The conference will generate 12,769 total room nights and an economic impact of nearly $6 million.

  • March 7, Susan Sauer will attend the monthly meeting of the Louisville Agricultural Club which will be held at the Kentucky Farm Bureau State Office. Jack Crowner, veteran farm broadcaster, who was recently nominated to be inducted into the 2008 Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame will be the featured speaker.


Tourism Development

  • March 1-2, Gayla Schaftlein participated in the AAA Travel Show at KEC. Attendees came from within a 100 mile radius of Louisville looking to plan vacations and weekend getaways.

  • March 1-5, Kate Amara will attend Travel South in Biloxi, Miss.  There she will meet with over 40 scheduled operators plus have the opportunity to promote group tours to Louisville to 12 Southern states.

  • March 5-9, Dineene Bradley, Nicole Twigg and Stacey Yates will attend the International Travel Berlin (ITB) Show in Berlin.  The ITB is the largest tourism related trade and consumer show in the world.  The Bureau will host a booth promoting the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in the Discover America Pavilion at ITB. The booth is a cooperative partnership between the Louisville Bureau, the Northern Kentucky Bureau and the Cincinnati International Airport.  In addition to taking appointments with clients, a bourbon tasting will also be held for tour operators and members of the media.

  • March 6-9, Kate Amara will attend Heartland in Milwaukee. She will meet with tour operators and group leaders mainly from Ohio.

  • March 7-10, Gayla Schaftlein will promote Louisville at the St. Louis Travel Show in St. Louis.


Bureau Services

  • The next class for the Louisville Hospitality Ambassador LHA Designation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26 from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Locust Grove on Blankenbaker Lane. Cost of the program for a member company is $79 per participant and $129 for a non-member company. Space is limited, so register online at www.hospitalitylouisville.com.   • On Wednesday, March 12, the Bureau invites you to Business After Hours at Gardencourt at the Louisville Seminary, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. This popular trade show and networking event is held twice a year and gives partners the chance to exhibit and network with more than 350 business professionals and local meeting planners.
