Kentucky Bourbon
Highlighted at Derby Festival Event

The Bureau is hosting
a themed area called “Bourbon Country” during the Kentucky Derby Festival.
Bourbon Country is part of the Kroger’s Derby Fest-a-Ville
at Waterfront Park. Running now through Derby Eve, May 2, Fest-a-Ville will
host more than 30 planned events including outdoor movie screenings, national
music acts, fine wine and bourbon, food and family recreation. Located next
to the main stage, the Bourbon Country Tent features Kentucky bourbons and promotions
from some of the distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The barrel-themed tent is a
full-service bar with bourbon as the main ingredient and will host special events
daily including visits from master distillers, bourbon-themed giveaways and happy
hour specials. The remaining schedule for the Bourbon Country Tent is:
April 29 – Wild Turkey
April 30 – Four Roses
May 1 – Jim Beam
May 2 – Heaven Hill

The Louisville Visitor Center is your shopping headquarters for
Kentucky Derby merchandise. Bureau partners receive 15% off of regular price of all Derby items.

The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau will introduce a new
free walking tour of downtown Louisville in May. The tour will be a 60-minute
walking tour run by volunteers. If you or someone you know would like to be a

The Bureau
is excited to announce a new training program that offers anyone working in the
hospitality industry in the Louisville area a chance to receive a HLA designation
and become a certified ambassador to Louisville. Training includes:
- Orientation to Louisville course
- Discover Louisville Tour showcasing neighborhood attractions and entertainment venues
- Opportunity to taste great food at a Louisville Original restaurant
- Passport for complimentary entrance into 12 area attractions
- Volunteer opportunities within Louisville's tourism industry
The Hospitality
Louisville program will begin on May 28 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Cost
of the program for a member company is $79 per participant and $129 for a non-member
company. Group rates are available. Space is limited, so register today!

The Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau is looking for men
and women of all ages to donate a few hours of their week as a convention greeter.
It's is a great way to make new friends while promoting the city that you love.

April 27, Peggy Riley received the APEX Award from Black Meeting and Tourism magazine at the New Orleans
Marriott. The national award is presented to hospitality professionals who
have made significant contributions to the industry and have advanced in their
careers. Peggy also attended the Travel Professionals of Color Trade Show at the New Orleans Marriott on April 28.

April 28-29, in partnership with the Kentucky Derby Festival, the Bureau hosted the AT&T Derby
Festival Morning Line. This annual event brings stations from the region to broadcast
live from the Kentucky Derby Museum on the Monday and Tuesday mornings of Derby
week. The Bureau assists in securing hotel rooms for the station personnel, along
with requesting donations of goods and services from member/partner restaurants
and attractions. The donated items are given to each station to use as on-air
giveaways. Participating stations included: WKYW, Frankfort, Ky.; WLLX, Lexington,
Ky.; WQXE, Elizabethtown, Ky.; WNSR, Nashville, Tenn.; WMST, Mt. Sterling, Ky.;
WKDZ, Cadiz, Ky.; WBIO, Owensboro, Ky.; WLGC, Ashland, Ky.; WLLK, Somerset, Ky.;
WAFN, Huntsville, Ala.; WIKY, Evansville, Ind.

Last
July, approximately 7,000 people carrying nearly 12,000 treasures, heirlooms and
oddities, descended on the Kentucky International Convention Center to consult
with Antiques Roadshow expert appraisers. Viewers can relive the
excitement of the Roadshow’s Louisville visit in a three-part series, airing
Mondays, April 21 - May 5 at 8 p.m. on KET2 and Thursdays, April 24 - May 8 at
8 p.m. on KET1 and KET HD, and Saturdays, April 26 - May 10 at 5 p.m. on KET1.

Please
join the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau as we kick-off the city’s
Hometown Tourist Celebration Friday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Visitors Center
at 4th and Jefferson. For more than five years, the city has hosted Hometown Tourist
events to encourage community residents to visit attractions all around Kentuckiana
with their families just as if they were tourists in another city. Held in conjunction
with the Travel Industry Association’s National Tourism Week, numerous attractions participate with
discounts and special offers throughout the month of May. The public is invited
to the 2008 Hometown Tourist kick-off celebration on Friday, May 9 at the city’s
Visitors Center. The event will unveil the Celebration’s
details including special discount ticket offers.
- In association with the Louisville Historical League and Louisville Mojo, Mayor Abramson is seeking your vote on which
heritage or cultural places within Louisville and Southern Indiana are the top
"7 Wonders of Louisville." Your vote will help decide, so click here to cast your ballot. Only one entry per person.
Voting will take place Monday, April 14 - Tuesday, April 29.
The top 20 vote recipients will be considered for the “7 Wonders of
Louisville” contest. The second contest, to vote on those sites nominated,
will be located here, and voting is open from May 7-20. The top seven vote
recipients will be recognized as “Louisville’s 7 Wonders.” The
results of this second contest will be announced at the site that received the most votes overall on May 22.
