Marketing/Communications

  • April 14, the Fairfield Inn and SpringHill Suites held its Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 132 East Jefferson Street. The hotel is a joint venture of White Lodging Services, REI Investments, Poe Companies and local project partners Clyde Ensor, Mike Ehrler and Nolan Allen (not pictured). Pictured (l to r) are: Clyde Ensor, Mayor Jerry Abramson, Steve Poe, Bob Gigliotti (in back), Mike Ehrler, Jim Wood (in back) and Councilman David Tandy.

  • April 14, Louisville was declared the winner in the search for the Twin City of Bushmills in America. In addition to the Twin City title, Louisville also takes home a $40,000 grand prize to be used for the advancement of local culture and to support responsible drinking. As part of a celebration honoring the 400th anniversary of the original license to distill granted to the Bushmills region, the search was narrowed to three finalist cities, Louisville, Boston and Portland, Maine. Americans cast more than 55,000 votes and selected Louisville as the champion and solidifying the partnership between Bushmills and Louisville, two of the great bourbon and whiskey capitals of the world.  Pictured (l to r) is Jim Wood, Louisville Bureau president & CEO; Gordon Donoghue, master distiller of Bushmills Irish Whiskey; Dineene Bradley, Louisville Bureau vice president of Tourism Development.

  • Gathan Borden, Nancy Stephen and Stacey Yates attended and exhibited at WhiskyFest in Chicago on April 4. The Bourbon Country booth had more than 600 enthusiastic visitors from Arizona to Michigan, some of whom had heard of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and others who are eager to visit. The CVB staff distributed information about Louisville as the Gateway to Bourbon Country, the city's Urban Bourbon Trail and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.  Attendees could also register for an Ultimate Ryder Cup Experience prize package.

  • Last July, approximately 7,000 people carrying nearly 12,000 treasures, heirlooms and oddities, descended on the Kentucky International Convention Center to consult with Antiques Roadshow expert appraisers. Viewers can relive the excitement of the Roadshow’s Louisville visit in a three-part series, airing Mondays, April 21 - May 5 at 8 p.m. on KET2 and Thursdays, April 24 - May 8 at 8 p.m. on KET1 and KET HD, and Saturdays, April 26 - May 10 at 5 p.m. on KET1. For more information visit www.ket.org.

  • Please join the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau as we kick-off the city’s Hometown Tourist Celebration Friday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Visitors Center at 4th and Jefferson. For more than five years, the city has hosted Hometown Tourist events to encourage community residents to visit attractions all around Kentuckiana with their families just as if they were tourists in another city. Held in conjunction with the Travel Industry Association’s National Tourism Week, numerous attractions participate with discounts and special offers throughout the month of May. The public is invited to the 2008 Hometown Tourist kick-off celebration on Friday, May 9 at the city’s Visitors Center. The event will unveil the Celebration’s details including special discount ticket offers.

  • In association with the Louisville Historical League and Louisville Mojo, Mayor Abramson is seeking your vote on which heritage or cultural places within Louisville and Southern Indiana are the top "7 Wonders of Louisville." Your vote will help decide, so click here to cast your ballot. Only one entry per person. Voting will take place Monday, April 14 - Tuesday, April 29.

The top 20 vote recipients will be considered for the “7 Wonders of Louisville” contest. The second contest, to vote on those sites nominated, will be located here, and voting is open from May 7 - 20. The top seven vote recipients will be recognized as “Louisville’s 7 Wonders.” The results of this second contest will be announced at the site that received the most votes overall on May 22.
