Day One
Afternoon
- Lunch on the road
- KentuckyShow!: A multi-sensory experience that tells a beautiful story about the rich history of Kentucky. This show offers a Kentucky 101 for people who are visiting for the first time. For those who have been to Kentucky before, this show offers a reminder of why the state is so special. The imagery is stunning and sounds are comforting. KentuckyShow! is narrated by Ashley Judd, a Kentucky native.
- Walking tour of Downtown: The Possibil-a-tour offers an in-depth exploration of the heart of downtown Louisville. Your group will learn all about the city and its history, including its ties to bourbon. Explore Museum Row and the civic district. Along the way the tour will stop at various points of interest including the Kentucky International Convention Center, Whiskey Row, The Belvedere, and the Museums on Main. Learn about the cast iron storefronts and their role in Louisville’s younger years. The civic district includes City Hall, The Court House, both Thomas Jefferson and Louis XVI statues and Fourth Street Live!
- Schimpff’s Confectionery: This old time candy store is a rare find. Nestled in the heart of Historic Old Jeffersonville, IN, see the history of candy in their museum and watch firsthand as they make their famous Red Hots. This is one spot that stimulates all your senses, let your students really be a “kid in a candy store!”
- Louisville Mega Cavern: Once an urban legend, the Louisville Mega Cavern is now a reality. This manmade cavern was once a limestone pit mine that eventually lost mineral rights. For the past 50 years, this space has served many purposes. Most notably, it was the largest civil defense shelter to be used in the event of a nuclear disaster during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Now, years later, this mine has been turned into a one of a kind attraction. Your group will take a Jeep-driven tram through 17 miles of underground caverns and learn about the history of the cavern. Temperature is always 58°, so a light jacket is needed.
Evening
-
Evening performance and dinner at Derby Dinner Playhouse. Start your evening with Derby Dinner Playhouse’s savory dinner buffet, including a salad bar and a delectable array of Southern-style selections.
Day 2
Morning
- Breakfast at hotel
- Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory: Tour the world-famous bat factory. Admire the world’s largest baseball bat before going inside to see how Louisville Sluggers are made. Have an all-star experience by swinging a bat just like Babe Ruth’s, facing down a 90 mph fastball and sharing a dugout with Mickey Mantle. The Louisville Slugger has been essential in the sport of baseball since 1884.
- Louisville Science Center: Ever wanted to be a Mad Scientist? Whether it is the World Around Us, the World Within Us, or the World We Create, there is something for every budding genius in your group. The Louisville Science Center has many permanent exhibits and traveling exhibits that will expand your mind. Your group can also see award-winning IMAX movies in the Science Center’s own IMAX theater.
Afternoon
- Lunch at Lynn’s Paradise Café: Discover wildly sinful and truly southern concoctions at this one-of-kind eatery. With its quirky décor of ugly lamps and bottle cap art, you will feel truly at home while feeding your appetite with food and your mind with neverending eye candy. Lynn’s is one of four most fun restaurants in America, according to Esquire.
- Falls of the Ohio: The Falls of the Ohio State Park will have you walking back in time, literally. The rocks visible at the Falls of the Ohio are famous and unique, for they compose one of the largest horizontally exposed fossil coral reefs in the world. Because of the natural rapids at this point in the Ohio River, Louisville was established. As ships made their way down the Ohio, they would stop at this location so pilots could come aboard and steer safely through the rapids. The cargo and passengers would portage around the falls. Learn of the history of the Ohio River inside the Interpretive Center.
- Ghost Tours of Historic Old Louisville: Brace yourself for a tour of one of the nation’s largest historic preservation districts as you journey through haunted streets and scenic alleyways. Hear tales of an elegant past and of spirits that refuse to vacate their turn-of-the century mansions.
Evening
- Dinner aboard the Historic Belle of Louisville. Enjoy a scrumptious meal aboard one of the oldest paddle wheelers still in operating existence. Learn of her childhood years as a ferry between Tennessee and Arkansas. As a teenager during World War II, she often towed barges filled with oil along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. And finally leading in to her later years, she has become one of Louisville’s greatest treasures: A legendary Lady. This attraction offers a captive audience for your performance group as well as a memorable evening event.
