Entitled, “The Virtuoso Orchestra,” the 2009-10 Season showcases the versatility and virtuosity of Louisville’s orchestra on their own, as well as with celebrated guest soloists and conductors.
The Louisville Orchestra, a full-time seventy-one member ensemble, has long been recognized as the cornerstone of the Louisville arts community. Offering a wide variety of performances including: Coffee Concerts, matinee performances served up with free donuts and coffee: Classics Concerts, promoting orchestral music ranging from the well known masterpieces of Mendelssohn and Beethoven to new contemporary compositions: NightLites Concerts, entertaining 90 minute concerts showcasing a light orchestral repertoire featuring world-renowned guest artists in a relaxed, informative and “user-friendly” format: WOW! Concerts, incorporating multi-media presentations featuring the late Judy Garland on screen, the Music of the Eagles and Cirque de la Symphonie in three separate concerts designed to WOW you: Pops Concerts, performances presented at two of downtown Louisville’s greatest performance venues – The Louisville Palace and Whitney Hall, the 2009-10 pops roster spans more than six decades of American musical treasures and covers the top hits from The Commodores to Kenny G. and a performance paying tribute to the ‘70s in a "far out" program entitled, Disco Days and Boogie Nights. This season, the Orchestra kicks off the OKIDSTRA Concerts with its “Halloween Spooktacular” – an annual favorite for kids and musicians alike. Season entertainment continues with “The Classical Clown” featuring nationally renowned mime Dan Kamin and ends with the help of Underground Railway Theatre, combining movement and music for an unforgettable concert! A great way to introduce kids to classical music! And finally, to kick off the holiday season, the Orchestra and the Louisville Youth Choir lead the audience in songs to welcome the season....and a visit from Santa Claus himself.
